Below you will find information on teaching English as a second language.
For better or worse, our crazy English language is a world language and is essential in many jobs and professions. Teaching English is an evangelistic ministry of enormous importance. In many closed countries, it is one of the few ways a Christian worker can find access. And in Japan, for instance, a majority of converts found the Lord because they got to know a Christian - the one who taught them English.
Even if you live in an English-speaking country, there may be many opportunities to teach English to migrants, ethnic minorities, and refugees. Whether you take a TEFL course and learn the techniques of teaching, or just offer English conversation, it can be very rewarding. And you will be enriched by learning about other cultures and viewpoints.
Lots of ESL material, tapes, books, and videos.
"...we hear them in our own tongues declaring the mighty acts of
God."Acts 2:llb
Let me encourage you to check out our website for more info on the
two-pocket album and printed booklet.
The two-pocket album and printed booklet is an excellent, proven tool to
incorporate into TESL programs. It is not intended as a tool to teach
ESL, but, rather, a tool to incorporate into programs designed to teach
people English as a second language.
The two pocket-album and printed booklet was ASI's response to a need
felt by international students to improve in English skills, students
doing their studies in the English language in foreign universities
overseas, and to create the opportunity to introduce the essential
truths about Jesus Christ in English language learning programs. The
two-pocket album is not a tool to teach English, but a tool to be
incorporated into successful language learning programs, thus gaining the
opportunity to introduce the user students to Jesus Christ in an
appropriate way.
The two-pocket album has the Portrait of Jesus cassette in English in the
one pocket and this same cassette in the student's own language in the
second pocket. The English language booklet corresponds with the text of
the English tape. By listening, reading along and practicing, the
student feels he/she is getting help in fluency and pronunciation. In
that context, the user is being introduced to Jesus in a very
non-threatening, acceptable manner. It creates the opportunity to
introduce the essential truths about Jesus in the words of the gospel
writers, those who were there when it happened. The tape itself has UBS
endorsement and has been greatly appreciated those who have learned about it.

It's important to write in an easy style for second-language users. It
helps any online reader too!
English teaching is a major opportunity in virtually all non-English
speaking countries, open or closed. It is difficult to overstate its
significance as a witness tool in a world desperate to learn English.
Many specialist or general mission groups use this opportunity.

Helping Second-language Visitors to a Web-site
Many visitors to English-language web-sites are at a big disadvantage
because the level of English is too high for them. Here is a way to
offer them word definitions in 'Javascript Popup boxes'.
If you are aiming to write in an easy-English style, it is often necessary
to rephrase and use
easier alternate words. Dictionaries designed for ESL students
are a source for such alternatives, as they offer word definitions expressed
in easy English:
English Dictionary for Students (Peter Collin)
Collins Cobuild New Student's Dictionary (HarperCollins)
Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary (Oxford University Press)
The All Natsions English Dictionary (All Nations Literature, PO Box 26300,
Colorado Springs CO80936, USA)
defines words from a Christian perspective. It may not now be easily
available.

This announcement from a missionary friend. It is about a web site from
which you can download free books to use in teaching English. The books
have been field tested in Asia. That is all I know, other than that they
look pretty good.
We are taking this means to announce to our many friends and
co-workers that our six books are now available on the Internet, free
of charge. The books are useful tools in teaching English to persons
whose native language is not English. We are finding thousands of
persons in Asia who are extremely anxious to improve their ability to
speak and understand this language that is fast becoming the preferred
language of the world. The Central Baptist Church in Melbourne,
Florida, USA, has kindly added these books to their Web Site. They
can be downloaded without any additional equipment or software.
Please read the footnote. We are grateful to the church for making
these books available to anyone in the world who would like to have
copies. This will free us to do additional writing to make the Bible
more easily understood by those people who are struggling to master
English. God bless you. Gary and Evelyn Harthcock New EFL material

The tool for this ministry is the exciting English in Action curriculum,
a fully integrated English program based on Bible stories. The Student
Workbook helps students to easily understand the Gospel as they learn
English. The Teacher's Manual trains lay people to successfully guide
