Adventure on Mutchneed Island CD-ROM

The CD jacket says, "Join Kevin Goer and his missionary family as they travel to the far-away and interesting Mutchneed Island to help translate the Bible for the Mutchneedian people. Along the way, the Goers will need help to learn the language, fix their jeep, take an airplane to 'Tabletop Mountain' and much more. And you will have to find the right person to do each job - as well as solve some special puzzles and games." Wycliffe has made another excellent mobilization tool for children with their Mutchneed Island CD released in 1999. Great sound effects, simple graphics, and a good focus on turning children into mobilizers looking to match people with needs on the mission field! My 9-year-old, Beni, rates the age range as being for 5 to 8-year-olds (you have to know how to read, but the puzzles are not hard). He enjoyed it, however, and it took him about half an hour to go through. Price is about $4. Order from Wycliffe Canada 1-800-463-1143 www.wycliffe.ca.

Adventures In the Jewish World- The first of our G-A-V Programs to be published in a "How To" manual for use in Children's Church, VBS, Day Camp, or Children's Missions Conferences. Children will celebrate three Biblical Feasts as well as enjoy re-enacting the story of Hanukkah. The manual includes two lessons on the High Holy Days, "Rosh Hashanah" and "Yom Kippur." Children will be held captive as they follow Nathan in his quest for the Messiah in the continuing story "Nathan Finds New Life In Jerusalem." Kids Around the World Video Series

VIDEO: Kids Around The World: Riffi Berber` Review by NateWilson

Caleb Project's "Kids Around the World" series is designed to give children a missionary heart for unreached people groups, and they have just come out with a brand-new kids video on the Riffi Berber of Morrocco. I got to see a pre-release edition of it a few weeks ago and I highly recommend it. The video is about 10 minutes long, but gives a thorough introduction to the culture and daily lives of Riffi children in Morocco. And it has the best video special effects I've seen yet in a kid's video (watch out Bill Nye!). At the end of the video is a song (complete with hand motions) about these Berber children and how we can pray for them. The video comes with a curriculum of informative and fun activities. $16

Caleb Project offers wonderful missions resources for children and adults. Their resource catalog is online at http://www.calebproject.org/reso.htm.

Millie Carlson

My husband and I served with the Evangelical Free Church Mission in Venezuela for 30 years and then as Rocky Mountain District Mission Consultants for 7 years until our retirement in January of 1998. I (Millie) together with Fay Peterson have prepared two volumes of mission curriculum for children.

"Young Hearts for Missions" Volume One was published by the Evangelical Free Church Mission in 1995 featuring 12 lessons with Biblical truths. Each lesson also includes a true current missionary story from different countries. These lessons are adaptable for small or large groups of primary or junior age children. They may be taught as a complete quarter or as stand-alone lessons. Everything you need is included in one notebook with reproducible student pages. This was edited by Millie Carlson, Gloria Grell and Fay Peterson. It can be purchased from Next Step Resources, 901 East 78th Street, Minneapolis, MN 55420-1300, 1-800-444-2665 for $39.95.

"Young Hearts for Missions" Volume Two was published by the Evangelical Free Church in 1999 featuring 12 Bible lessons showing God at work through his servants as recorded in the book of Acts. It also includes 12 current missionary stories showing God at work today through his servants around the world. (Different countries are featured in this volume.) Each lesson in this binder is adapted for both primary and junior age children. Special focuses are included on unreached people groups, 10/40 Window, Islam, Outreach English Camps, and prayer walks. It may be taught as a complete quarter or as stand-alone lessons. It is edited by Millie Carlson and Fay Peterson and may be purchased for $49.95 from Next Step Resources, 901 East 78th Street, Minneapolis, MN 55420-1300, 1-800-444 BOOK (2665), E-Mail: nextstep@efca.org.

CHILDREN'S MISSIONS RESOURCE FILE - A 7-VOLUME SET! FOR FREE!

I still marvel at the awesome power of the sum total of all Brigada participants working together. I mean, think about it. Just in the last couple of weeks we've learned about great prices on VCRs for the former Soviet Union, free tapes for Christian leaders from George Verwer, 10/40 Window color calendars, National Geographic collections on CD, that great list of "sources-for-stuff" and now a tremendous collection of resources for kids and missions In this case, Gerry Dueck at the US Center in Pasadena is the one to thank. He has painstakingly assembled a jam-packed a whoppin' 118 K file (probably 70 pages??!), split it into 7 volumes, and made it available to Brigada participants at no charge. Why? Because he loves kids and wants these resources to be used to share with them the world and its needs! So -- grab the phone and call your nearest Christian Education director. He or she needs this bibliography. It's very very detailed and complete with email addresses and toll-free numbers and fax numbers galore. To get it, copy these lines and paste them into an email message to hub@xc.org . The 118K of resources will be emailed to you in a 7-volume set that you can reassemble on your own computer. Thanks Gerry.

44 Countries

Recently I put together a book entitled 44 Countries. It is designed for children and can be used in many different ways with a teacher or parent. It includes maps, questions after each four countries covered to help readers recall significant information. Cultures, beliefs, histories, locations and many interesting facts are given to stimulate children to learn and pray about nations throughout the world. Because the many pictures are all in full color it has been placed on a CD in order to make it accessible to churches, families, schools and libraries. The purpose of 44 Countries is to instill in children and adults a desire to learn and be concerned about the great physical and spiritual needs of people in Asia, South America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Island countries. Both rich and poor countries, Buddhist, Animistic, Islamic and Christian nations are covered.

I believe this is a good resource for mission minded leaders and can introduce children to many lands with little effort on the part of the parent or teacher. 44 Countries is priced at $9.95 with a $3.00 shipping and handling fee until the end of September 2002, and if you are interested in more information you may see my new website at www.44countries.com or write me at my email address qdshaw@juno.com.

REVIEW From: <KIDSCAN@aol.com>

There is no guarantee that what will work with one group of children will work with another. There are many variables. Kids Can Make a Difference evaluates materials before we recommend them and whenever possible we ask questions to determine what they really need. Some items to check when evaluating materials: the date published, the type of activities (paper and pencil, coloring are low on kids' lists), how the material is to be presented. You can have a lot of information but if the teacher is not given creative ways to present the material, you can forget it. Ask questions about the children. Have they been prepared with missions thinking? Some kids have been well taught and are moving beyond the simulated airplane ride. You can always refer them to us for more in-depth help. We also provide a guarantee on our materials, if it isn't what they wanted after they get it they can return for a refund.
