An Internet Bible correspondence course is targeting Russian speakers with the gospel. Greater Europe Mission's (www.gemission.org) Rich Bonham says they're partnering with Mission Aviation Fellowship (www.maf.org), Bible Mission International and Moody Bible Institute (www.mbi.org). Bonham says it will be patterned after MBI's programme. "They have a series of five courses that Bible Mission International has translated those courses into Russian. And, they've had a success rate of approximately 30 percent of the people that have been taking those courses, that are not Christians, become Christians through them." He says this could be just the beginning. "We want to make this a template that we can use in evangelistic websites throughout the world. Greater Europe Mission is obviously interested in using these in areas of Europe, but our other partnering agencies are also very much interested in using these templates." Our company "Bible software" ("Biblejskije kompjuternyje programmy") has
been established in 1997 for realisation of the 3 Christian programs, unique
for Russia. Its staff counts only 2 people: Alexei Roudenko-Desniak (director)
and Evgenij Novikov (scientific consultant).

Distribution and development of the software, which works with Russian text
of the Bible ("Bible on the computer"), including searching in the text,
cross-referencies, lexicons, commentaries etc.
The main strategic goal - creation of a valuable (cross-referencies,
Strong's numbers, excegetic lexicons) fully Russian application with text
of the Russian Bible, which could be distributed FREE OF CHARGE, because
many believers in Russia can't pay real price of such a program.
The company "Bible software" is the only distributor in Russia of the
two Bible study applications:

a. ON-LINE BIBLE. This is FREEWARE application, developped in Canada.
Today it has more than 40 full Bible translations (including Russian
Synodal translation with Strong's numbers - the only in such programs! -
and Ukrainian translation by Ivan Ogienko), 644000 cross-referencies,
Hebrew and Greek Lexicons and many others.
We have fully translated the interface of the application and its help
system, have corrected a range of mistakes in the text and in the program
itself; now we are working over the documentation. In September fully
localized version will be expected, which will be distributed free of
charge as well. We work in close contact with the developers of the
ON-LINE BIBLE from Canada Larry Pierce (103526.2724@compuserve.com)
and Brent Reed fromthe USA (brent.walter.reed@internetmci.com).
In the attachment [deleted - BS] you'll find a snapshot of the display
with the ON-LINE BIBLE running on Russian.

For the distribution of these programs through Internet we have registered
domain of the 2nd level bible.ru, which we support from our own expenses.
Now every user of the Internet can download free of charge On-Line Bible
with Russian modules from the address:

Internet site "Russians and Christianity" (www.bible.ru), which we support
from our own expenses as well, - is the only inter-confessional search site
in Russia. Its main goal - to give the most complete picture of the Christian
Internet (search servers of Christian confessions, texts of the Holy Scripture,
Christian software, missions in Russia, etc) for the believers in Russia of all
confessions. Many of them knows English not enough well, therefore "Russians
and Christianity" gives complete description of the Internet links in Russian.

The site supports all main coding of Russian language (KOI-8, Win 1251,
CP 866, ISO) and is designed so, that any user can work with it without
problems with any browser (including non-graphical one, like Linux) and on
any speed, which is very important for bad telephone lines in Russia. Now
we plan to create on its base search engine like Yahoo! about Christianity
and open it officially. We plan as well, that its support will be realized by
representatives of various confessions, for example, links about baptists
will be edited by a baptist, about catholics - by a catholic and so on.
We have already collected a "virtual staff" representing all main confessions.

Publication of fundamental text-books. The scientific consultant of the
company Evgenij Novikov is a professional of the highest level
(he speaks fluently on 12 ancient languages) and has prepared a range of the
text-books, which have no analogies in Russia:

a. "Practical course of the Hebrew of the Old Testament" (the 1st textbook
on Bible Hebrew since Communist revolution 1917), the 1st part has been
already published, the 2nd is going to be printed;

b. "Hellenoslavica" (the textbook, in which Greek and Church-Slav languages
are given in parallel; has got a grant of Soros);

c. "Greek-slavic ABC book for children";

d. "Latin language" (the 1st textbook on medieval and scientific Latin in
Russia).

Christian materials. We also find that there are requests for lessons in
English (it seems that English is the most "popular" language for everyone to
be studying over there). That might give an additional idea if you hadn't
thought of it. Shipping materials is a problem to get things to folks. We have
boxes that we can put 70 pounds in that makes another "full sized" suitcase to
