Following is a summary of what we currently are doing, but please don't consider it a definitive list. Our heart is to serve and multiply the effectiveness of the Church / and Mission organizations using strategic technology to reach the world for Christ. If there is some service that you need, please give us a call. Perhaps it would be something that we would like to add to our repertoire and offer to other organizations as well.

MAF in conjunction with several other mission organizations is organizing a Distance Education initiative, which will focus on delivering Theological and Biblical training via CD-ROM, e-mail, and the Internet.

Warehousing: Currently we store ministry materials for about 20 organizations in our 800 square meter warehouse located at metro Polezhayevskaya. Several furloughing missionaries also store their personal effects with us. We maintain a computer inventory of all items and monthly reports are sent to all who store items with us. Currently we have 1.8 million books in the warehouse. In the past year, over 2.5 million books have crossed our loading dock.

We charge $.58 per cubic meter of volume per day. You only pay for the exact storage space you need. Please contact <MAF-Moscow-Warehouse@maf.org> for information or a storage request form.

Shipping: We arrange shipments by air cargo, rail cargo, rail container, and truck. Often we look for other organizations who desire to ship materials to the same city so they can share the use of a container (and divide the respective costs). We can make all the arrangements for your shipment including the required shipping documentation and customs clearance (if required). We charge the exact cost of the shipping plus $5 per hour for our Russian employee's labor. We also can deliver materials to the airport or train station to connect with passengers who will hand carry the materials. Please contact <MAF-Moscow-Warehouse@maf.org> for information or a shipping request form.

Local Moscow Deliveries: MAF Russia has a 3.5 ton GAZ truck which has been
widely used for apartment moves and materials deliveries. We charge
$15 per hour (includes the truck and the driver). Please contact
<MAF-Moscow-Warehouse@maf.org> for scheduling.

Visa service: We provide visa letter of invitation and visa registration
service for missions. Sometimes this is done under MAF and sometimes
we merely provide the secretarial labor for visas issued under other missions.
This past year we have processed over 250 single entry or multi-entry visas
for missionaries or short term visitors. Rates vary according to the type and
duration of the visa. Please contact <MAF-Moscow-Visa@maf.org> for
information and an application.

Travel Service: We can make hotel or guest house reservations, purchase
tickets for train or airline, as well as arrange airport/train station pick ups.
Please contact <MAF-Moscow-Travel@maf.org> for information and scheduling.

E-Mail Service: MAFnet is a full featured Lotus ccMail based e-mail system providing easy to use e-mail service with a higher level of security than what is provided by other local e-mail services. Our MAFnet hub in Moscow is located in our office and serves individuals from 11 organizations. We also have provided assistance to many individuals in resolving their e-mail/Internet and computer problems (even if they don't use MAFnet). Our main purpose is to help individuals and organizations with their communications needs. MAFnet e-mail service costs $20 per month for unlimited message traffic. Please contact <Admin-Moscow@maf.org> for information and an application.

Mapping: In conjunction with several other organizations involved in the Research Project, we assist by plotting the collected data in maps using the Strategic Mapping AGIS software. We can customize maps according to your criteria. The E-Mail Conference: As part of the MAFxc service, we provide the missions community with three e-mail conferences to promote information sharing and networking. This includes calendar items, dialog via e-mail messages, and access to relevant resources (to download). We can also assist organizations in setting up their own e-mail conferences and (to a limited degree) web pages.

Future Operations: We are investigating the need for satellite phone communications (we are considering purchasing a loaner unit for traveling mission leaders). We also are laying the groundwork for radio e-mail networks to support ministry efforts in those areas where the telephone service is very poor or nonexistent. And, as our name suggests, we are investigating the need for missionary aviation service in the Far East. Please contact me if there is any way we can help you in any of the above areas. Our office in Moscow is located at:

Moscow 117420, Kvartal 29-30, ul. Nametkina, 5 (near metro Noviye Cheryomushki) in the Russian Ministries section.

A Ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ

Several of you have requested more information about New Life Bible College (Moscovski Bibleiski Kolledzh "Novaya Zhizn'"). I have included text of a fact sheet below.

As a grace-oriented, practically-minded, non-denominational training program, we have a long history of cooperating with other missions to help them develop leaders. A good many denominational and non-denominational missions) have sent students our way and/or employed them after they graduate. If your mission does not already have a leadership training vehicle that you're happy with, I encourage you to be in touch.

NLBC was founded in 1993 as "St James Bible College," to train pastors and church planters for the Russian speaking world. While the primary goal is to train pastors and church planters, we also hope to train leaders for a wide range of Christians ministries. Sister schools have been founded in Minsk, Kiev and Almaty.

Conditions of Enrollment:

Men and women no younger than twenty-two years of age and two years in the Lord, may apply. Applicants complete a written application and obtain recommendation from their pastors. Promising applicants will then be invited for interviews. There is no written exam, though applicants lacking higher education may be tested for Russian language skills.

Application forms may be obtained by e-mailing us at nlbc-moscow@maf.org (Latin fonts only) or clysakov@aol.com (Cyrillic fonts), or by telephoning Olga Taranova at (095) 719-7779, ex. 148. We are located in the Christian Ministry Center on Namyotkina Ulitsa. Tuition is free, and financial support and housing may be provided on a case-by-case basis.

The Program:

Our program is an intensive, two-year residential program, which includes a systematic study of the Bible and Biblical Theology and a heavy emphasis on the practical skills and topics needed to plant and lead healthy, multiplying churches. Classes are five hours a day, five-days a week, 32 weeks per year, with four additional weeks of practicum. Most topics are taught in two-week, intensive modules.

Courses are taught by experienced practitioners. Basic skills such as personal evangelism, mass evangelism, small group dynamics, discipleship and topics such as personal spiritual life, apologetics, cults, Muslim evangelism and Slavic Baptist history are taught by our Russian staff and other qualified Russian teachers. Bible, Theology, Church History, Marriage and Family, Pastoral Ministry, and other topics are taught by veteran pastors with sufficient seminary training. Most are from North America, though increasingly, Russians are invited. In certain courses, such as Preaching, the theory portion may be taught by an American with a D.Min. in preaching, and then workshops and preaching labs will be led by our Russian staff.

Students are expected to spend 10-12 hours per week in ministry. Most serve in ministry teams under a Russian mentor/trainer and work toward a particular goal, generally planting a church or evangelizing a particular demographic group (e.g. teenagers, university students, professional women). This year, churches have been planted in south Moscow and in the Moscow suburb of Domodedovo and an outreach launched at the Russian People's Friendship University.

For one week in the fall and three weeks in the summer, students travel throughout the country and carry out evangelistic campaigns and training seminars to assist in the planting of churches. At least 10,000 people a year hear the Gospel from our students in one-on-one and group evangelism.

Accreditation:

The college was founded with the goal of rethinking the way Christian leaders are trained. Our program is very innovative and does not fit easily into traditional categories. The closest Western parallel might be something like a Master of Ministry or M.A. Pastoral Studies, though at a level appropriate to the Russian context. We are, however, pursuing both licensing from the Ministry of Education and accreditation from the Euro-Asiatic Accrediting Association, but for the time being, applicants should assume that they are applying to an unaccredited, non-traditional, training program.
